I'm ready for WINTER!

TA DA!! Here it is, I finished it up and put the collar on today. Here is it all zipped up and cozy.....

So, this is originally an old White Buffalo Cowichan sweater pattern. Does anyone remember that yarn? It is really thick and has no twist, kinda looks like roving. Anyway, the original is MUCH bulkier, but here is my little interpretation of it. I also modified the pattern, not as bold as the original. I knitted this with Patons Shetland Chucky, and it took 3 skeins of grey, 2 white, and 1 black. I am happy with this especially after so many failed knitting project attempts recently.....
But now I have to deal with this. YIKES!

Stay tuned for my first pair of sewn pantaloons!

Keep your fingers crossed.....

So, I didn't even bother posting about my latest project or putting up a WIP bar. My last two knitting projects have been disasters. The Gilmore Vest looked HORENDEOUS, all baggy, and shapeless, I guess for some patterns, yarn substitution will kill the project (instead of the soft Fable baby alpaca, I double-stranded Rowanspun 4-ply. And lets not even get into the Knit Picks Cardi...yuck, yuck, yucky yuck!
Anyway, back to what I started talking about, I didn't bother mentioning my latest sweater, it is an adaptation of a old White Buffalo Cowichan sweater pattern. I made it more of a shrunken fit, used a less bulky yarn, and modified the pattern (as in the fairisle) a bit too. I put in the zipper today, and aside from being too snug in the arms, which hopefully will ease up, it looks pretty cute. I still have to finish the collar, and then I'll post pics!

Birds & Butterflies Shirt

So, here is a sewing FO, one a can actually wear out with my head up high! For starters, I LOVE the fabric, a combination of pale green flowers, birds, and butterflies. The shirt was hugely modified from a McCalls pattern, I took in the sleeves, then had to add a bit extra at the underarms because I took too much (note to self, my arms are not as skinny as I think!), added a button band (fancy!), and omitted the front darts and also the facing panels. All in all, I think it turned out pretty good. See......

Here's the button band I added , partly because the shirt was a bit snug so I wanted to add a bit more material, and also because I think it adds some nice detail as well.

Lastly, somehow this worked out nicely, but not intentionally as I cut the pattern with right sides facing, but a bunch of flowers and the whole bird ended up at the bottom corner on the back of the shirt, very cool, looks like I did it on purpose!

So that's that! Now I am working on a velvet blazer, pictures to follow. On the knitting front, I am working on the Gilmore Vest featured on Fable Knits website. Almost done the back....

More Sewing

medium_book1.jpgI added a few more pictures of sewing projects, but here is my latest. I saw one of these paperback book covers with handles to carry around and a nifty built-in bookmark before, but never managed to find a pattern. So I made this up and it turned out pretty well!medium_book.jpg The sleeves fit like a glove, I think they will make great gifts for the bookworms in my life...
